The project of Petro Antyp “The Goddess of the Steppe” in the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lyiv bas become a logical continuation of the first stage of the project “Amazon, the Goddess of the Steppe” in the Taras Shevchenko National Museum in Kyiv (April, 2017).
Expanded with new paintings and sculptures, a collection of small figurines and a graphical “Amazon” series (2017-2018), it not only demonstrates the extended range of vi- sually-shaped forms and new facets of an emotionally-tuned spectrum of the artist’s works, but also primarily represents them as an integral notion. This is apparent both in the techniques and the type of depiction as well as in the figurative and thematic components of the works, which connect different spheres of the art of Petro Antyp like a cord.
As previously, he turns to the collective memory and mainstreaming of cultural ideas, which have been saved in the depths of the collective unconscious across centuries and even millennia. The main “hero” of the project is the myth as one of the embodiments of cultural memory and simultaneously as a timeless model, which becomes a source of individual mythological creativity for the artist.
